Der Fix.

I found a solution to my issue. I've copied it in from a microsoft forum below.



My issue was I was getting ZERO audio over HDMI, not that it would stop working after cycling the tv/avr. It appears the DisplayAudio driver does NOT get updated when you update the Intel HD Graphics 4600 drivers UNLESS you have the HDMI Audio Out enabled on your mother board AND you have an active device trying to reach the device (extended display and hdmi connected). Some mobos only allow SPDIF or HDMI audio out and this is controlled in the BIOS. See below for the hat tip to k_vdb from High Definition Audio Device - Device Cannot start - Microsoft Community:



Fixed.



Found out that it's all about the Intel DisplayAudio driver, which is not installed unless the device is active. So here is what I did:



- I downloaded once more the latest Intel HD graphics driver from the Intel site, but this time the zip file, not the executable: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=23323&lang=eng.



- Extracted the file to some location.



- I changed the display config from single output to my pc monitor to 'extended desktop', so the HDMI output to my receiver became active.



- In Device Manager I right clicked the device with the yellow exclamation mark and updated the driver manually by pointing to the DisplayAudio subfolder in the folder into which I extracted the driver files.



- Done, the exclamation mark was gone. To be sure I rebooted the pc and was able to play audio over HDMI.



See, I had the driver package installed for the most part, just the DisplayAudio bit was missing, because the HDMI output was not active during the first install.

I would just like to post that I finally got Gigabyte to send me a BETA bios. They kept telling that their latest BIOS (from august 2013) was the latest. I insisted that it wasn't, and after a few messages back and forth they sent be the beta F6B bios.



I am happy to announce that this BIOS update has in fact fixed the audio disappearing issue on my machine. After months of dealing with this issue I can finally say it's fixed for me.



I have the Gigabyte H87N-WiFi Rev 2.0 board.

Anyway the release notes contains 'Updated RC to 1.6.2.'
