Mit der Unterstützung des Stromsparmodus DevSleep und den umfangreichen Verschlüsselungsmöglichkeiten mit Support für AES 256, IEEE-1667, TCG Opal 2.0 und Windows eDrive ist die 850-Evo-Serie in puncto Funktionen sehr gut aufgestellt. Zubehör sucht man in der Verpackung aber vergebens. Fünf Jahre Garantie sind in dieser Preisklasse selten.

Bei den Preisen in Relation zum Speicherplatz gehört die Serie zu den günstigsten im Verbrauchersegment, obgleich es noch einige geringfügig günstigere wie die Crucial BX200 gibt. In der Regel sinkt der Preis pro Gigabyte innerhalb einer Serie mit steigender Kapazität. Dies gilt zumindest zum aktuellen Zeitpunkt nicht für das 2-TB-Modell – ohne Konkurrenz lässt sich Samsung den höchsten Speicherplatz etwas mehr kosten. Mit derzeit rund 700 Euro ergibt sich ein Preis von 35 Cent pro Gigabyte. Die 850 Pro mit 2 TB kostet momentan 880 Euro und damit 44 Cent pro Gigabyte.
