             ****THE ULTIMATE BOOT DISK****
Ŀ
Q: What is a boot disk?
A: A boot disk is a diskette that contains the
few essential files and programs your computer
needs when it won't start due to a virus or
      corrupted files.

This disk has Adaptec drivers and a driver that works
with most IDE CD-ROMs. You can load these extra
drivers, boost your PCs conventional DOS memory,
eliminate the splash screen and speed up booting by
selecting FAST BOOT from the menu. PLEASE READ THE
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW IF YOU NEED TO ADD OTHER DRIVERS.

1. SAFE MODE RECOVERY

If Windows fails to load, try starting your computer
in Safe Mode. To start your computer in Safe Mode:

Select FAST BOOT on the main menu, then SCSI or IDE.
Reboot. A new menu will appear. Choose SAFE MODE. Once
inside Windows, press the Start button and select
   "Help"to resolve any startup issues.

2. FILE CORRUPTION

If step 1 fails, your computer's system files may be
corrupted. Select "Fix Registry" if you are using
Windows 98 or have installed the UBD Tweaks.

3. FULL RECOVERY

You may use this disk to reinstall Windows. This is a last
ditch step that will erase any customization you have done.

4. ADDING A CD-ROM OR ZIP DRIVE

a. Locate the driver and copy it to this disk
---------------------------------------------
Many computer makers supply CD-ROM drivers on a floppy disk
that came with the computer. If not, you should check the
web site of the company that built your computer or made
your CD drive. Copy that driver, which is usually named
<somthing.sys>, to this disk. (You may need to delete
existing drivers on this disk to make room.)

b. Edit the "config.sys" file
----------------------------------------
After you copy the CD-ROM driver, edit the config.sys
file on this disk. Type "edit config.sys" at the DOS
prompt. Insert the following line after the entry
LASTDRIVE=Z, substituting the actual name of your
driver for XXXX:

DEVICE=XXXX.SYS /D:IDECD (if your CD is an IDE device)
DEVICE=XXXX.SYS /D:SCSICD (if your CD is a SCSI model)

Press F2 to save the file, and you are done.
