Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy im Benchmark: Für Samsungs S25-Serie gibt es mehr CPU- und GPU-Takt
Im Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra, S25+ und S25 (Hands-on) steckt mit dem Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy ein angepasster Chip, der aufgrund von Taktsteigerungen für CPU und GPU ein höheres Leistungsniveau im Vergleich zur Standardausführung verspricht. In der Praxis fallen die Unterschiede marginal aus, wie erste Benchmarks zeigen.
150 MHz mehr CPU- und 100 MHz mehr GPU-Takt für Samsung
Exklusiv für den größten Anbieter von Android-Smartphones stellt Qualcomm erneut eine angepasste Version des derzeit schnellsten eigenen Chips zur Verfügung. Das Anhängsel „for Galaxy“ steht beim Snapdragon 8 Elite für 150 MHz höher getaktete Prime-Kerne des Typs Oryon 2, die somit anstelle von 4,32 GHz auf bis zu 4,47 GHz kommen. Für die sechs Performance-Kerne belässt Qualcomm den Takt bei den bekannten 3,53 GHz, die auch alle anderen Abnehmer des Chips erhalten.
Anhand eines von Samsung im Nachgang der Vorstellung ausgehändigten Leihgerätes des Galaxy S25 Ultra konnte die Redaktion auch feststellen, dass die Kooperation in einer etwas schnelleren GPU gemündet ist. Zur Präsentation gab es weder von Samsung noch Qualcomm konkrete Aussagen dazu, was den „for Galaxy“ zum „for Galaxy“ macht. Die Adreno 830 darf in den Samsung-Smartphones auf bis zu 1.200 MHz gehen, in anderen Geräten mit Standardchip sind es maximal 1.100 MHz.
Speicher auch ausschlaggebend für Leistung
150 MHz mehr CPU- und 100 MHz mehr GPU-Takt sind auf dem Papier ein kleines und in der Praxis ein noch kleineres Plus, wie sich anhand erster Benchmarks feststellen ließ. Die Leistung des Snapdragon 8 Elite ist zudem abhängig davon, auf welchen DRAM-Standard der Hersteller setzt. Zur Vorstellung des neuen Qualcomm-Chips letzten Oktober konnte die Redaktion Grafiktests auf Referenzgeräten mit LPDDR5X-9600 und LPDDR5X-10667 ausführen. Zwischen 4 und 10 Prozent mehr Leistung lieferte der schnellere Standard in Anwendungen wie dem 3DMark.
Auf welchen DRAM-Standard Samsung im Galaxy S25 Ultra setzt, ließ sich vor Ort noch nicht ermitteln. Qualcomm unterstützt maximal LPDDR5X-10667, Hersteller können theoretisch aber auch noch einen langsameren Standard wie LPDDR5X-8533 nutzen.
Galaxy S25 Ultra im Benchmark
Erste CPU-Benchmarks im Geekbench 6.3, PCMark 3.0 und JetStream 2.1 offenbaren keinen signifikanten Leistungszuwachs. Das Galaxy S25 Ultra schiebt sich im Geekbench 6.3 äußerst knapp am Asus ROG Phone 9 (Test) mit dem normalen Snapdragon 8 Elite vorbei, die Ergebnisse liegen aber im Bereich der Messtoleranz. Der PCMark liegt den Samsung-Geräten traditionell weniger gut, sodass Asus hier sogar besser abschneidet. Im Browser-Benchmark JetStream 2.1 dreht sich das Bild wieder zugunsten von Samsung. Von einem deutlichen Vorteil kann aber nicht die Rede sein. Den sieht man dann allerdings deutlich im Vergleich zum vorherigen Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 (for Galaxy).

Im 3DMark ist sowohl bei dem einen Raytracing- (Solar Bay) als auch in den Rasterizer-Benchmarks eher ein Leistungsvorteil für den „for Galaxy“ zu erkennen, auch hier sind es erwartungsgemäß aber nur wenige Prozentpunkte. Samsung zieht an Asus vorbei und drückt sich vor zu den Referenzgeräten von Qualcomm, wobei deren Variante mit LPDDR5X-10667 die Leistungskrone behält. Es ist davon auszugehen, dass Samsung nicht auf diesen derzeit schnellsten Standard für Smartphones setzt. Im GFXBench landet die übertaktete Variante wieder knapp hinter dem ROG Phone 9, den GPU-Test des Geekbench 6.3 gewinnt das Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Eine Kooperation für mehr als nur Taktraten
Letztlich ist es also weder ein eklatanter Vorteil, den Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, noch ein Nachteil, nur das Standardmodell etwa aus dem ROG Phone 9 zu besitzen. Beide Varianten sind absolute High-End-Chips, die zum einen deutlich mehr Grafikleistung als Apple und zum anderen die beinahe gleiche Single-Core-CPU- und eine höhere Multi-Core-CPU-Leistung zur Verfügung stellen. Als größter Chip-Abnehmer von Qualcomm kann sich Samsung die exklusive Ausführung auf die Fahnen schreiben und hier und da mit leichten Vorteilen werben, mit mehr dann aber auch nicht.
Laut Samsung bietet der angepasste Chip allerdings mehr als nur etwas höhere CPU- und GPU-Taktraten. Zur Vorstellung hieß es zum Beispiel, dass auch Samsungs „mobile Digital Natural Image engine“ (mDNIe) integriert worden sei, um die Displays effizienter anzusteuern. Ob Qualcomm dafür wirklich die Transistoren angepackt hat oder sich so etwas auch per Software lösen lässt, bleibt aktuell noch offen.
