Neues Stepping für Pentium 4 2,80C GHz

Intel wird dem Pentium 4 2,80C GHz ab dem 29.9.2003 ein neues Stepping spendieren, das die Bezeichnung M-0 trägt und das bisherige D-1 Stepping ablöst. Außer eine Änderung im "Product Design" gab man keinerlei Informationen bekannt.

• Description of Change to the Customer:
  • M-0 Core Processor Stepping Change Addition.
  • The CPUID will be 0F25h for M-0 Step.
  • M-0 step is pin compatible with D-1 step.

Ob auch die schnelleren CPUs folgen werden, geht aus der Mitteilung leider nicht hervor. Da der P4 2,40C GHz jedoch bereits seit Juli über dieses Stepping verfügt, ist davon auszugehen. Die Prozessorkennungen werden sich wie folgt ändern:

Und auch die Springdale-Platine D865GLC erfährt ein Update, das es durchaus in sich hat.

• Description of Change to the Customer:
  • Convert the Intel® 82801EB I/O Controller Hub 5 (ICH5) from A2 stepping to A3 stepping. This stepping change is required in order to ensure continued component supply availability for manufacturing.
  • Add P08 BIOS so that the system BIOS can be updated in runtime without a system reboot. This BIOS version is posted at http://developer.intel.com/design/motherbd/bf/bf_bios.htm. Please refer to the BIOS release notes that accompany the BIOS for additional feature information.
  • Change the factory programming of the SMBIOS TYPE 2 structure's "Manufacturer" field from "INTEL CORPORATION" to "Intel Corporation." This change is required to improve board manufacturability.
