Während man in der Welt der Hardware immer noch erforscht, wieso der Vorsprung der GeForce-6800-Karten in Doom 3 so signifikant ist, lassen sich die Entwickler von id Software davon nicht beirren und verbessern kontinuierlich ihr Spiel. Neuestes Resultat ihrer Bemühungen ist ein erster Patch.
Dieser trägt die Versionsnummer 1.05 und ist laut Publisher Activision und Entwickler id Software allerdings noch eine Beta-Version, die vornehmlich für Leute gedacht ist, die Probleme mit dem Spiel haben. Hauptsächlich konnte man so die Stabilität des Spieles im Multiplayermodus verbessern sowie Verbesserungen an der Lokalisierung vornehmen. Zudem soll es nun weniger Grafikfehler geben. Der Beta-Patch 1.05 ist knapp 17 MB groß und kann bei den US-amerikanischen Kollegen von Shacknews (Mirror ) heruntergeladen werden.

We have released the first update for DOOM 3 as a beta and on a limited scale (it is only available on the File Shack at www.shacknews.com). We don't anticipate any issues with it but felt it best to get it into the hands of a few thousand people rather than the entire customer base in case we missed something. We will release the update through our update server for wide release once we have verified there are no problems with it.
Eine ausführliche Beschreibung der Änderungen von id Softwares Robert Duffy gibt es im Klapptext dieser News. Dort spricht er auch davon, dass bereits in wenigen Tagen die Demo-Version sowie das SDK zu Doom 3 veröffentlicht werden sollen. Insgesamt wird diese Demo drei Maps des Single-Player-Modus beinhalten und soll den noch unentschlossenen Käufern einen Vorgeschmack auf die sinistre Welt von Doom 3 geben, so Duffy. Zudem plane man ein weiteres Update, welches dann auch die Punkbuster-Anti-Cheat-Software beinhalten wird.
