Bei unserem Test der Systemstartzeit haben wir wie in der Vergangenheit nicht auf eine komplett frische Installation gesetzt. Um das Szenario so realistisch wie möglich zu gestalten, wurde bei allen Tests eine vollständige Installation von Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit mit allen Treibern und diversen Programmen verwendet. Ermittelt wurde die Bootzeit mit Hilfe der Windows-Ereignisanzeige.

Hinweis: Die Startzeiten von Anwendungen hängen neben dem Systemlaufwerk auch stark vom Prozessor ab. Es ist also davon auszugehen, dass die Differenzen mit einem übertakteten Core i5 beziehungsweise Core i7 noch etwas größer und in einem Notebook oder bei Verwendung einer älteren CPU etwas geringer ausfallen.

Beim Entpacktest kommt der 840 Evo entgegen, dass unser ISO-Image etwa so groß ist wie der Schreibcache und daher mit voller Geschwindigkeit geschrieben werden kann, wodurch die Evo in diesem Test mit die schnellste SSD im Testfeld ist. Bei einem größeren Image würde sie dementsprechend weiter hinten landen.
