Apple stellt die beiden zwischen Juli 2011 und Juli 2012 veröffentlichten Betriebssysteme Mac OS X 10.7 Lion und Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion über seinen Support ab sofort kostenlos zum Download bereit. Die beiden Betriebssysteme wurden vormals noch kostenpflichtig angeboten und mittels per E-Mail versandten Code aktiviert.
Mac OS X Lion und Mountain Lion kostenlos
Wurden Mac OS X 10.7 Lion und Mac OS 10.8 Mountain Lion bis zuletzt noch kostenpflichtig zu einem Preis von 21,99 Euro angeboten und innerhalb von 1 bis 3 Werktagen mittels per E-Mail versandtem Aktivierungscode autorisiert, bietet Apple die beiden Betriebssysteme jetzt ein wenig überraschend kostenlos zum Download an und schafft damit die Möglichkeit, ältere Macs mit dem am 28. August 2009 erschienenen Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard mit einem aktuelleren Betriebssystem auszustatten.
Apple selbst nennt die folgenden Systemvoraussetzungen für Mac OS X 10.7 Lion:
