Top 10 Reasons Intel will not Participate in the Dual-Core Duel

10. Tried to follow their own roadmap to get to the duel
9. Decided to take the "front-side bus" to the duel; got stuck in a bottleneck
8. The "Intel Inside" stickers they used to package the cores together keep melting
7. Too busy rearranging the deck chairs on the Itanic
6. "Hey, we don't expect anyone to actually buy these things!"
5. Didn't want to compete when they realized that the duel would involve actual "rules" of fair competition
4. They couldn't get a permit from the fire department to emit that much heat
3. No systems available yet - protective clothing used by manufacturers only safe for up to 149 watts
2. Dell told them they weren't allowed to participate

And the number one reason Intel won't accept the dual core duel:

1. Moore's Law has been replaced by "Paul's Paradox": the number of canceled products per year at Intel will double every year after the introduction of the AMD Opteron processor.


Das is einfach zu geil, jeder Grund ist ein Lacher für sich.

Ein Glück, dass ich einen AMD habe.
Bei AMD ist sowieso alles besser: Die entwickeln und produzieren Dinge, die man erst in 3 Jahren wirklich nutzen könnte, kassieren aber durch gutes Marketing bereits jetzt den Löwenanteil daraus für ihre Umsatzzahlen. /ironie

Man kann sich aber nur deswegen scheckig darüber auslachen. weil sich andeutet, dass Intel zwar erster Massenanwender für 65 nm Fertigungstechnik ist (abgesehen von deutlich kleinerem Schaltkreisen für Handy und Co.), aber deren 65 nm sind nicht so stromsparend wie anfangs gehofft.

Ein 64 Bit Pentium M mit

a. allen aktuellen Features,
b. mit hohen Taktraten und
c. einem zeitgemässer Systemanbindung

ist genau das, was AMD das Fürchten lehren könnte. Mit a. wird der Pentium M 2006 wohl irgendwie dienen können. Bei b. muss man abwarten. c. wirds wohl 2006 definitiv nichts.

Und in Sachen Marketing kann ein AMD-Fanboy nur blau vor Wut anlaufen, da hat es Intel geschafft sich abzulösen von Prozessorenn und schiebt Plattformen in den Vordergrund. Wer kennt denn schon den Pentium M (oder gar deren Codenamen) nur Spinner und Geeks. Der normale Konsument kennt nur "Centrino" ... und das ist hohe PR-Kunst, ob nun Moore`s Law hin und Pat`s Paradoxon her ... fast egal.
