Microsoft Build 2020: Entwicklerkonferenz kapituliert vor COVID-19

Auch die Entwicklerkonferenz Build 2020 vom 19. bis zum 21. Mai wurde jetzt in Folge der aktuellen Entwicklungen rund um das Coronavirus und der daraus in vielen Fällen resultierenden Lungenerkrankung COVID-19 von Microsoft abgesagt. Das Event soll jetzt rein digital abgehalten werden, wie The Verge berichtet.

Während Microsoft auf seiner offizielle Website zur Build 2020 lediglich auf mögliche Ein­schrän­kun­gen hinweist und angibt, die weiteren Entwicklung genau zu beobachten, hat The Verge ein Statement eines Microsoft-Offiziellen veröffentlicht.

The safety of our community is a top priority. In light of the health safety recommendations for Washington State, we will deliver our annual Microsoft Build event for developers as a digital event, in lieu of an in-person event.

Applying social distancing measures to the extent the system allows, though, is the best defense against the spread of the novel coronavirus, particularly without vaccines or treatments available.

The goal isn’t to eliminate the disease entirely, but to keep cases from appearing all at once. During a pandemic, that can mean the difference between a severe outbreak and one that’s more manageable.

Demnach wird die diesjährige Entwicklerkonferenz als digitales Event in Form eines Webcast anstelle einer Vor-Ort-Veranstaltung durchgeführt. Zuvor mussten bereits zahlreiche andere Veranstaltungen wie die Nvidia GTC, der Mobile World Congress und kleinere Events wie die Chemnitzer Linux Tage aufgrund des Coronavirus' abgesagt werden. Auch die diesjährige E3 findet nicht statt. Für Apples WWDC im Sommer liegt hingegen aktuell keine Absage vor.
