Windows 10 Insider Preview: Build 19645 liefert Linux-Kernel per Windows-Update

Microsoft liefert den Linux-Kernel für das Windows Sub-System für Linux (WSL2) mit dem neuen Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 19645 erstmalig über Windows-Update aus. Damit ist der von Microsoft gepflegte Kernel für die Linux-Kompatibilitätsschicht zukünftig unabhängig von den Funktionsupdates von Windows 10.

Neue Kernel kommen über Windows-Update

Dieser Ansatz erlaubt es Microsoft, schneller auf etwaige Probleme mit Linux und dem Sub-System zu reagieren und einen aktualisierten Kernel direkt über Windows-Update bereitzustellen. Microsoft behandelt die Kernel-Updates für WSL2 damit zukünftig wie Treiber- und Windows-Updates.

Erstmals eingeführt wurde das „Windows Subsystem for Linux“ v2 mit dem Mai 2020 Update alias Windows 10 2004 („20H1“), das Microsoft am 27. Mai zum Download freigegeben hat.

Sollte sich das Kernel-Update mittels Windows-Update in den kommenden Insider Preview Builds bewähren, soll es in einer der nächsten stabilen Versionen des Betriebssystems Einzug halten.

Hyper-V und Smartphone-Features

Mit dem aktuellen Insider Preview Build führt das Unternehmen aus Redmond zudem Unterstützung für Nested Virtualization mit Hyper-V für Systeme auf AMD-Basis ein und behebt verschiedene Fehler der vorangegangenen Vorschau. Auch die App „Ihr Smartphone“ erhält kleinere Funktionsupdates zur Steuerung von Musik-Apps vom Smartphone des Anwenders aus.

Die Fehlerkorrekturen und die noch nicht behobenen Probleme listet Microsoft in den offiziellen Release Notes wie folgt auf:

• We’ve fixed an issue where some devices booting from eMMC storage bugchecked when resuming from hibernate.
• We fixed multiple Japanese and Chinese IME issues that impacted IME mode switching within applications and Windows notification area.
• We’ve fixed an issue where taskbar preview thumbnails weren’t rendering consistently (showing a blank area).
• We fixed an issue resulting in the handwriting input panel not appearing in certain text fields after being tapped with a pen.
• We fixed an issue where resizing a snapped application in tablet mode would minimize the app to the taskbar instead of adjusting the app size.
• We fixed an issue where Windows Hello Setup would crash if facial recognition was already set up and you chose the Improve Recognition button.
• We fixed an issue for some users where your PC wouldn’t recognize it when you inserted a smart card (event log showing error 621).

• We’re looking into reports of the update process hanging for extended periods of time when attempting to install a new build.
• We’re working on fixing an issue for a future Insider Preview build where in Settings > Privacy, the Documents and Downloads sections show a broken icon next to their page name (just a rectangle).
