I made some progress. The Geforce 6800 now runs and produces appropriate benchmark results. I´m not sure what the problem was, though. I began with only the Geforce in the system, 2x 512 MB Twinmos at 2,5-3-3-8-1T, A64 3000 at 9x260, Onboard audio, serial and paralell ports disabled.
Then the installation sequence:
1. WinXP prof SP1
2. SP2
3. Uli integrated driver 2.1
4. Forceware 77.76 (the last before the 7800)
5. Benchmarks (3dmark05, 3dmark03, aquamark)
The Geforce runs at 16/6, 360/800 and returns the following results:
3dmark05: 4250+ points
3dmark03: 11000+
aquamark: 65.500
All benchmarks run rockstable, even when i tried to overclock the Geforce over its limits.
Then i added a Soundblaster PCI to slot 3 and still no problem. I will try to add a PCI FireWire card to slot 2 and bench some Games as well.
At the moment i can only speculate, but the main difference was SP2. The ULI AGP driver 2.30 was probably developed on WinXP SP2???
I don´t want to scare off people with Geforces, it seems to be a software/driver issue that maybe asks for a minute installation of all components.
