Mit dem Release von SteamOS 3.3, der neuesten Version des auf das Steam Deck angepassten Linux-Betriebssystems auf Basis von Arch Linux, optimiert Valve jetzt unter anderem die Leistung seines Zen-2-RDNA-2-Handheld-Gaming-PCs sowie dessen Wi-Fi-Empfang über das 5-GHz-Netz. SteamOS 3.3 ist ein großes Facelift für das Steam Deck
Neben neuen Gerätetreibern und einer aktualisierten Firmware, die für eine höhere Kompatibilität und mehr Leistung sowie eine verbesserte Wi-Fi-Stabilität sorgen sollen, bessert Valve unter anderem auch in den Bereichen Audio und Bluetooth sowie den Eingabegeräten nach und unterstützt jetzt neue und kommende Revisionen von bekannten Controllern. Auch der Desktop-Modus erhält eine Produktpflege.
Valve optimiert fast alle Bereiche
Die offiziellen Release Notes von SteamOS 3.3 und dem damit einhergehenden neuesten Steam Deck Client Update listen unter anderem auch mehrere Verbesserungen für die Installation und Aktualisierung von Apps via Flatpak – beispielsweise Firefox – und das Discover Software Center von KDE Plasma auf.
Ebenfalls neu sind das KDE Plasma Classic Theme („VGUI2“) und ein verbesserter Support für 32-Bit-Spiele, welche die offene Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) nutzen.

Updated network connections created/edited on the desktop to default to system-wide, ensuring they are available in gaming mode

Neu ist zudem auch der sogenannte „Update Channel Selector“, welcher dem Anwender ab sofort die Wahl zwischen den drei Entwicklungszweigen „Stable“, „Beta“ und „Preview“ des Betriebssystems SteamOS lässt.
System Updates
Added a new Steam Deck software update channel selector – there are now three options:
Stable: Recommended experience for most users. This option will install the latest stable Steam Client and SteamOS.
Beta: Testing for new Steam features. Updates frequently. This option will install Steam Client Beta and the latest stable SteamOS.
Preview: Testing for new Steam and system-level features. Updates frequently. You may encounter issues. This option will install Steam Client Beta and the SteamOS Beta.
You will only see patch notes for the update channel you've selected.

SteamOS 3.3 wird bereits verteilt
Der Rollout von SteamOS 3.3 und des inkludierten Steam Client Updates über den Stable Channel hat bereits begonnen und erfolgt wie gewohnt in Wellen.
Auch in Sachen kompatible Spiele geht es mittlerweile zügig voran: Valve hat rund 2.000 Spiele auf dem Steam Deck getestet und davon 662 als „Steam Deck Verified“ und zusätzlich 587 als „Steam Deck Playable“ eingestuft.
