Valve Proton 6.3-8: Nvidia DLSS und 24 zusätzliche Spiele für Steam unter Linux

Valve gibt mit Proton 6.3-8 eine neue Version der Kompatibilitätsschicht basierend auf der zu Windows kompatiblen Laufzeitumgebung Wine für das Spielen auf Steam unter Linux heraus. Neben insgesamt 24 neuen Spielen wird erstmals auch Unterstützung für KI-Upsampling mittels Nvidia DLSS (Test) geboten.

Neue Spiele für Steam unter Linux

Zwei Monate nach Proton 6.3-7, das den DirectX-in-Vulkan-Übersetzer DXVK 1.9.2, welcher den CPU-Overhead in DirectX-Spielen reduzieren soll, erstmals unterstützt und Spiele wie Forza Horizon 4 (Test) und Resident Evil Village (Test) in die Bibliothek vollständig Linux-kompatibler Spiele aufgenommen hat, legt Valve mit Proton 6.3-8 noch einmal nach und liefert neben DLSS auch Support für viele neue Spiele.

Die Release Notes auf der Projektseite von Proton auf der Entwicklerplattform GitHub listen insgesamt 24 neuen Titel, darunter auch Age of Empires 4 (Test), Deathloop (Test) und Guardians of the Galaxy (Test), für das Spielen auf der Vertriebsplattform Steam unter Linux.

Anti-Cheat hält Einzug in Proton

Außerdem wurde der Support für die Anti-Cheat-Engine BattleEye, die unter anderem für Spiele wie Conan Exiles, DayZ, Planetside 2 und PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds zum Einsatz kommt und deren Support Valve bereits im September dieses Jahres bestätigt hatte, jetzt initial hinzugefügt.

  • Improve compatibility with games using Valve's CEG DRM.
  • Support DLSS in DX11 and DX12 games (guarded by PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 and dxgi.nvapiHack = False).

  • Fix crashes in Project Wingman, Satisfactory and other Unreal Engine 4 games using the Vulkan renderer.
  • Fix a sporadic crash when starting Baldur's Gate 3.

Nvidia DLSS in Proton implementiert

Nachdem Proton 6.3-7 das KI-Upsampling lediglich experimentell unterstützt hat, hält Nvidia DLSS mit Proton 6.3-8 erstmals offiziell Einzug in die Kompatibilitätsschicht von Valve und unterstützt sowohl DirectX 11 als auch DirectX 12.

Proton und das kommende SteamOS 3.0 des zuletzt auf den Februar des kommenden Jahres verschobenen Valve Steam Deck, einem Handheld-Gaming-PC auf Basis von Zen 2 und RDNA 2, sollen später alle Spiele der Steam-Bibliothek flüssig in einer Auflösung von 720p wiedergeben können. Hierzu unterstützt Proton 6.3-8 jetzt auch das neueste Entwicklerwerkzeug Steamworks-SDK.

Proton, Wine und Mesa 3D auf dem Vormarsch

Neben Proton 6.3-8 auf Basis von Wine ist zuletzt die freie Grafik-API Mesa 21.3.0 erschienen, die Raytracing auf RDNA 2 bietet und für das Spielen unter Linux ebenso essentiell ist wie die Kompatibilitätsschicht und das neue SteamOS.
