Samsung CF791:
  • 34", VA-Panel, 21:9, Curved (1500R)
  • 3440 x 1440
  • 100 Hz, 4Ms GtG
  • AMD FreeSync (über HDMI/DP)

The Samsung CF791 is one of the company’s many newly announced curved gaming monitors. The 21:9 ultrawide monitor has a 1500R curve which is a less common curvature and one that is more significant than the other widescreen monitors, the Samsung CF591 and Samsung CF39. The 34 inch monitor has a 3440 x 1440 resolution which gives it a very good pixel density of 110. The quantum dot technology gives the monitor a 125% sRGB color gamut meaning that colors will be more vivid and simply look better.

The Samsung CF791 has a 100Hz refresh rate, falling short of the more established 144Hz refresh rate. An upside however is that it has AMD FreeSync technology meaning stuttering and screen tearing will be eliminated. The monitor is able to use FreeSync both via DisplayPort and HDMI. This FreeSync over HDMI ability is fairly recent development as it was only late last year that AMD had announced advancement and this one of the first monitors to come out and include it.

It does not have an IPS or TN panel, but rather the more uncommonly seen VA panel and in doing so allows for much deeper blacks and less light leakage in corners. In spite of this Samsung has gone even further and developed a Game mode that even further enhances the blackness. The gaming monitor has a 3000:1 contrast ratio which is three times as strong as we typically see. This monitor can also be used for business purposes as it also allows for:

Picture-By-Picture (PBP), meaning you can connect and view image outputs from two different devices
Picture-In-Picture (PIP), meaning you can display media with another at the same time

The display has a rather unique silver and white color combination. It is nearly bezel-less and is also VESA compatible meaning you can easily use a monitor arm if you so choose. Ergonomically the monitor is limited, but has a unique Swing HAS design that lets you smoothly adjust the height. Two 7 watt speakers are integrated into the monitor for convenient listening.

The monitor is expected to be released in the second half of 2016. No word on pricing.
