Wie zuletzt bei Ryzen 7000 erfolgt auch bei Intel Core 13000 zuerst einmal der Blick auf die Leistungsaufnahme ab Werk und die ist – von hohem Niveau ausgehend – weiter gestiegen.
Der Verbrauch steigt
Alle drei K-Modelle kommen mit einer TDP von 125 Watt daher, so wie sie seit Generationen von den K-Modellen bekannt ist. Seit Alder Lake kommt die TDP, neuerdings „Processor Base Power“, allerdings nur noch dann zum Zuge, wenn die Temperatur es nicht anders zulässt – andernfalls liegt dauerhaft der höhere Turbo-Verbrauch an, egal wie hoch der Bedarf zuvor im Durschnitt lag oder ob „Tau = 56 Sekunden“ erreicht wurde. Und dieser Turbo-Verbrauch steigt mit Raptor Lake abermals an.
Der Turbo-Verbrauch beträgt beim neuen Core i9 und Core i7 in der K(F)-Variante jeweils 253 Watt und damit noch einmal mehr als bei der 12. Generation. Mit 63 Watt ist der Aufschlag beim Core i7 besonders deutlich. Beim Core i5-13600K(F) mit nochmals weniger Kernen und Takt liegt das Maximum hingegen bei 181 Watt, das sind 31 Watt mehr als zuvor.

Das ist in der Praxis nachvollziehbar. Schon der Core i5-13600K genehmigt sich unter Multi-Core-Volllast mit gemessenen 172 Watt nur noch 20 Watt weniger als der Ryzen 9 7950X, Core i7 und Core i9 liegen deutlich darüber. Darf der Core i9 ohne Grenze elektrische Leistung aufnehmen, steht er mit bis zu 315 Watt Package-Power in Prime95 sogar einsam an der Spitze – und dieser Modus ist bei vielen „Gaming-Mainboards“ Standard.

Auch Ryzen 7000 verbraucht ab Werk deutlich mehr als Ryzen 5000 und konnte diesen Mehrverbrauch in Multi-Core-Lasten durch eine überproportional gestiegene Leistung nicht einmal mit dem Schlagwort „Effizienz“ kontern. Bei Raptor Lake ist das anders: Weil jede SKU mehr Kerne bietet, steigt die Leistung in Multi-Core-Anwendungen in diesem Fall tatsächlich stärker als der Verbrauch. Die neuen CPUs sind auf höherem Verbrauchsniveau also effizienter als die alten.
Leistungsaufnahme in Spielen ab Werk
Bei AMD Ryzen 7000 stieg der Verbrauch in Spielen gegenüber Ryzen 5000 nur unwesentlich an, bei Intel Raptor Lake ist der Zuwachs größer: 37, 16 und 28 Prozent mehr elektrische Leistung genehmigen sich Core i9, Core i7 und Core i5 im Durchschnitt im Testparcours, wenn sie im CPU-Limit maximal gefordert werden.

Leistung in Apps bei reduzierter TDP
Um das herauszufinden, hat die Redaktion weitere Testläufe mit den neuen Prozessoren durchgeführt. Wie bei Ryzen 7000 kamen dabei in Anwendungen folgende TDP-Stufen zum Einsatz:

Die komprimierte Übersicht macht einige wesentliche Punkte deutlich:
- Intels neue CPUs profitieren von den hohen respektive noch höheren maximalen Verbräuchen wesentlich deutlicher als die Ryzen 7000. Von Effizienz keine Spur, aber die Leistung steigt weiter an.
- Nichtsdestoweniger kann Intel auch mit dem offenen Core i9-13900K nicht ganz auf den Ryzen 9 7950X aufschließen, der dabei wesentlich weniger verbraucht.
- Im Vergleich Raptor Lake zu Alder Lake ist der Sprung in der Effizienz deutlich. In jeder TDP-Klasse sind die neuen CPUs jeweils wesentlich schneller unterwegs als die alten.
- Gegen Ryzen 7000 zieht auch Raptor Lake wiederum noch den Kürzeren. Nur der Core i9-13900K kann mit 16 E-Cores bei 45 Watt einen Achtungserfolg gegenüber der versammelten Konkurrenz verbuchen. Ansonsten gibt es in jeder Klasse mindestens ein Konkurrenzprodukt, das schneller unterwegs ist.
Diese Erkenntnisse stehen nicht mit den von Intel vorab präsentieren Ergebnissen im Konflikt. Der Hersteller versprach, dass der Core i9-13900K in vielen Bereichen deutlich effizienter ist als der Vorgänger. Das ist der Fall, wenngleich unterschiedliche Testumfänge zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen führen.
Groß sind die Unterschiede dabei nicht. Bei 65 Watt schafft der Nachfolger 96 Prozent der Leistung des Vorgängers bei 241 Watt, mit fast halbiertem Verbrauch bei 125 Watt erreicht er bereits 126 Prozent. Und maximal wird ein Leistungsniveau von über 150 Prozent erreicht – hier ermittelte die Redaktion sogar mehr Leistung als Intels Testlabor.

Unterm Strich lässt sich Intels Folie damit bestätigen. Mit viel weniger Verbrauch kann Raptor Lake in Form des Core i9-13900K die gleiche Leistung des Vorgängers 12900K liefern. Die Zwischenschritte mit jeweils noch immer etwas geringerem Bedarf münden bereits in Leistungssteigerungen, um am Ende letztlich deutlich besser dazustehen, wenngleich auch bei höherer Leistungsaufnahme – im Wettstreit mit dem Ryzen 9 7950X um den längsten Balken.
