Grub-Bootloader textmodus einstellen

Ich will dass mein grub mir nur den Textmodus beim booten anzeigt
Das ist doch sicherlich irgendwo einzustellen oder?

Soll Grub den Bootloader nur als Text anzeigen oder meinst Du, Dein Rechner soll NICHT automatisch X-Windows starten (GNOME, KDE etc.) ?

Mich würde es interessieren, den Grub nur als Text, im Konsolen Stil zu laden.
Gehe mal davon aus, der Threadersteller meinte das auch

Grub startet standard-mäßig im Textmodus. Wenn Du bereits grafische Gimmicks im Boot-Menü angezeigt bekommst, hat das Dein Distributor für Dich gemacht.
Welche Distribution verwendest Du?

Ich verwende SuSe 10
Hab mir auch schon das eigebaute Bootloaderkonfigurationstool angesehen, ist aber eher etwas dürftig

lol es ist Suse 10.1 das ich verwende.
ja das konfigurationstool ist wirklich armsehlig.
brauche nur die richtige einstellung fürs grub damit er mir nicht die grafische oberfläche schon beim auswählen nimmt... sondern nur textmodus...

splash hab ich auf off gestellt das ist ja der bootvorgang

Willst du standartmäßig im Runlevel 3 booten, oder verstehe ich dich falsch?

er möchte lediglich, dass er keinen grafischen Bootloader mit Bildchen und Farben hat, sondern einfach nur den Text schwarz auf weiß, wie halt in der Konsole. Dann OS wählen, Linux soll aber schon mit X starten, nicht in der Konsole. So hab ich das verstanden

Das sehe ich auch so und zumindest ich hätte es gerne so.
Ich möchte halt mitbekommen, was beim booten vorgeht, um mal nen bisschen was von den Vorgängen zu verstehen. Und wenn ich ganz am Anfang schon son grafisches Ding starte und sitze nicht am PC sondern schau mal von weitem drauf, denk ich immer, der ist schon dabei KDE zu starten. Desshalb hätte ich den GRUB auch gern im Textmodus.

poste mal deine menu.lst bzw. grub.conf (je nachdem, wie die datei bei dir heißt).
Eigentlich musst Du nur alles rausschmeißen, was nach "quiet" oder "splash" aussieht.
Bei mir sieht eine Zeile zum Beispiel so aus:

/boot/vmlinuz-2.6.12-10-386 root=/dev/hda4 ro

Und wenn Du noch ne tolle Auflösung für den Boot-Vorgang haben möchtest, dann muss noch ein vga=792 oder sowas in diese Zeile.

War übrigends die menu.lst, falls das wichtig ist

1. Kopiere die menu.lst an einen Ort, so, dass Du die Datei wieder herstellen kannst.
2. Ändere die Datei so, wie ich es jetzt schreibe:

Jetzt solltest Du Grub im schlichten Schwarz/Weiß (Eintrag 'color'), ohne grafisches menu (Eintrag 'gfxmenu') und ohne Splash-Secreen (Eintrag 'splash') erwarten.
