Core i7: Memory Bug?

Bei Fud gibt es eine kleine Meldung, basierend auf einer Intel Präsentationsfolie:

The issue here is that you have to populate what Intel refers to as slot 0 in each of the channels first, as otherwise the system won't recognize the memory. This shouldn't be too much of an issue, unless you're using some exotic kind of CPU cooling that takes up too much space and prevents you from putting your memory modules into those slots.

This is all related to a minor bug or errata as Intel likes to call it in the first generation of Nehalem/Bloomfield processors, but it should be rectified down the road as Intel didn't have enough time to fix the issue straight away.

Also wenn ich das richtig sehe auf der Folie, dann ist Slot 0 doch der 2,4 bzw. 6 Slot von der CPU aus gesehen. Verstehe das Problem also nicht wirklich.

Und selbst wenn der Slot direkt neben der CPU Slot 0 wäre, dann bräuchte man schon einen sehr, sehr exotischen CPU-Kühler damit die sich in die Quere kommen.

so schauts aus.. Sehe da auch kein wirkliches problem. Als Asus Käufer ist man es eh gewohnt den jeweils 2ten Slot (vom
Sockel aus gesehen) zu nutzen da sich dort i.d.R. die Speicher besser übertakten lassen

Ich glaube auch nicht, dass der Bug schlimm ist. Vermutlich wirds in einem späteren Stepping behoben?

Und jop, wird wohl mitm neuen Stepping behoben. Nächstes Jahr sollen ja neue Modelle mit geringerer TDP kommen.

Core i7 with lower TDP to launch next year

IDF Taipei: First half?

One of the chaps we talked to during IDF let slip that Intel is working on a version of the Core i7 processors which will have a lower TDP than the current 130W model, which is indeed good news, as no-one likes a hot running processor.

We didn't get too much details, just that the new versions, which might include new models, will be out sometime in the first half of 2009. It looks like it might well be worth waiting for these new processors, especially if you're worried about the iffy memory issues we wrote about here.

Hopefully we'll manage to dig out some more details about this upcoming revision of the Core i7, but as for now, you'll have to make do with the fact that there's a model with lower TDP coming which if nothing else should make a few overclockers out there happy.

Du legst dir Meldungen aber auch immer so zurecht, wie es dir am besten passt. Gerade in einem anderen Beitrag HOT angemault wegen Fudo-News, jetzt mal wieder ein volles Zitat^^


Zu dem angeblichen Fehler. Komisches Ding aber wirklich irrelevant, da man bei jedem Mainboard auf die Beschriftung achten soll, um Dual- bzw. Triple-Channel zu ermöglichen. Da hat jeder Hersteller ja sein eigenes Konzept mit Farben oder weiss ich was. Mir wär das niemals aufgefallen, weil beim Asus P6T bei DDR3 immer alles zuerst in die orangenen Slots kommt, das ist auch heute so. Und bei Intel Boards sind es die blauen Slots, ebenfalls schon lange so^^

nein, ich hab HOT nicht wegen irgendwelcher "news von FUD" angemault sondern weil er permenant meint das die LGA1366
Plattform nur als Übergangslösung gedacht ist und mitm Lynnfield/Havendale dort nix weiteres kommt als XEs. Wenn
er sowas schon schreibt soll er auch dazu schreiben das es Spekulationen sind!

Zudem kommt es bei FUD drauf an, diese jetzigen Angaben stammen von der IDF, denke nicht das FUD da soviel falsch
machen kann

Würde mich auch wundern wenn Intel LGA1366 sterben lässt, bis auf XEs. Ist das nicht auch die Serverplattform?
