Memory Having Major Problems with ASUS P5Q SE2
* OCZ part number:-OCZ2G8004GK
* Module size and kit size:-4GB, 2 x 2GB kit
* CPU model and rated speed:-Q9400
* Overclocked CPU speed:-
* Divider and FSB used:-
* Motherboard and revision:-P5Q SE2 Rev. E4200
* Motherboard Bios rev:-Vendor = American Megatre
* Video card:-Nvidia Geforce 9800GT +
* Power supply:-
* Operating System:-XP
* CPU and System Cooling:-
* CPU and System temps:-CPU=25C ,MB=32C
* Purchased at/on:-Retailer:Microcenter, 2/6
* Country:-United States
* Memory voltage:-1.9
Cannot pass memtest86+ test in the B Dimm group. I tested each dimm slot (with serveral passes0 individually with 1 stick of the OCZ2G8004GK and the A Dimm group would always pass and the B group always fails. I first thought it was the MB so I took it back to the retailer and swapped it out for a new one but the new board produced the same results. I have set the timings to 5-5-5-18 and volt to 1.9 and it still will not pass. I am no expert on the matter so I am looking for guidance. Is the MB bad or is this memory not compatible with the MB? Our there other settings that I need to adjust to get it to work?
I need help asap so I know if I should take the memory or board back for something new. My window for returns is shrinking so a speed reply would be appreciated.
You may want to test with the following options set in BIOS.
REF cycle time 55
DRAM Static read Disabled
DRAM dynamic write Disabled
DRAM training Disabled
DRAM OC charger enabled
Ai clock twister Light
NB voltage 1.18V
Two boards may have bad slots if the serial numbers are close enough that they may have had a bad run. I'd test the B group with a 1GB module see if the same problem persists.
You dont need luck when you have OCZ working the problem. Simon you rock!
Added the options that you suggested above (with the exception of the 'DRAM dynamic write Disabled' because I could not find that control) and got clean test runs on all dimm slots running as single channel as well as dual channel. I think that its insane that you guys know more about the ASUS mother board than ASUS's tech support group dose.
Here are the the complete Bios settings in Ai tweaker that solved the problem.
Ai Overclock Tuner [Auto]
FSB Strap to North Bridge [Auto]
DRAM Frequency [Auto]
DRAM Timing Control [Manual]
1st Information: 5-5-5-15-3-55-6-3
CAS# Latency [5 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM RAS# to CAS# Delay [5 DRAM Clocks]
DRAM RAS Precharge [5 DRAM Clocks]
RAS# Active to Precharge [15 DRAM Clocks]
RAS# to RAS# Delay [Auto]
Row Refresh Cycle Time [55 DRAM Clocks]
Write Recovery Time [Auto]
Read to Precharge Time [Auto]
2nd Information: 8-3-5-4-6-4-6
(everthing set to [Auto])
3rd Information: 14-5-1-6-6
(everthing set to [Auto])
DRAM static Read Control [Disabled]
DRAM Read Training [Disabled]
Mem. OC Charger [Enabled]
Ai Clock Twister [Light]
Ai Transaction Booster [Auto]
CPU Voltage [Auto]
FSB Termination Voltage [Auto]
Memory Voltage [1.80]
North Bridge Voltage [1.20]
South Bridge Voltage [Auto]
All other Bios options are left to the default which it probably auto.
