Dear Chris,
Thanks for supplying this feedback as it is very important to improve our products even more.
First… your English is not that bad at all and we have no problem in seeing your questions and problems.
Re: Your remarks
We really can imagine you are quite confused by all this different information.
The only thing we can say is that our website [consistent with the information of the guys from PC Games Hardware] states 350MHz for our standard version, which has the code PV-T43B-UDF3. The memory of this model is set on 1000 MHz which is also the standard rate as specified by NVIDIA for the reference design. Thanks to you we have found the error on our website in the memory clock rate, for which we sincerely apologise. We have amended the memory speed on the xfxforce.com to the right clock speed, 1000 MHz. The reason why 1.1 GHz has been uploaded is because we have been aiming for this clockspeed, but the current [reference] design of the PCB was not good enough to guarantee a stable working product and we were forced to use the standard clock speed too. Unfortunately this slipped into the standard product upload.
Our eXTreme version [it will have the code PV-T43B-UDD3] is not ready yet and the clock rates are not know yet and obviously it is not available yet for at least another 3 / 4 weeks. Also the price of the eXTreme will most likely be higher than the standard version.
All the other listings you have found, is indeed very confusing and maybe even misleading, but unfortunately not within our power to fully control what is happening on the reseller level.
Obviously, we can conclude from the item code, you really have bought a standard version and the clock rates you have found are correct. The unfortunate situation within our process is that we have, by accident, packed this product into a box labelled as an eXTreme product. We sincerely apologise for that as you have had another expectation of what you were expecting to buy. However… the product you have received compared to the price you have paid are really consistent and you have received the exact product you have paid for [as far as we can judge] Going into overclocking the card, as you imply, will maybe improve the performance a little but it might also cause the card to become unstable. This really depends on every single situation, unique quality of the components. Overclocking the card will absolutely result in no warranty. All overclocking aspects will be on your own risk.
Now the more serious part, your problems:
BIOS showing 6800 GT:
Maybe needless to mention, but this is not correct. It seems very strange to us because you have bought a 6800GS product and no GT. We would like to investigate what is wrong and we would like to ask you to register the product on our support website. This will enable you to have direct contact with our service engineers and they will be glad to see what they can do for you in order to resolve the problem. Also we have forwarded your feedback to our supportcentre, so they already have knowledge about your situation and hopefully they are able to look into it more closely.
Clock rates:
The right clock rates [as mentioned above] are: 350 MHZ / 1000 MHz.
Overclocking the card is possible but is on your own risc and can affect your 2 year warranty. Overclocking the card falls within the fact of amending the product, where XFX cannot guarantee the product will remain working within the quality guidelines as set within the production criteria. Any damage resolving from overclocking the product will not be handled within the warranty.
Again we do want to apologise for any inconvenience you might have had.
I hope we have informed you well [even though it is not all you wanted to hear]
With kind regards,
Joost van Leeuwen
