Dass mit den Grafikchips der ausstehenden 500er-Serie neue Bild- und Videofunktionalitäten Einzug in ATis Produktpalette halten werden, ist hinlänglich bekannt. Auch die Bezeichnung Avivo macht bereits seit einigen Wochen die Runde durch das Internet. Nun greift ATi der Produktvorstellung voraus und kündigt Avivo offiziell an.
Ähnlich nVidias PureVideo-Technologie soll Avivo für eine klarere und farbenfrohere Bild- und Videodarstellung sorgen, hochauflösende Videoformate wie MPEG-2, H.264 und VC-1 in Hardware beschleunigen und alle erdenklichen Ausgabegeräte optimal ansprechen können. Dafür sorgen unter anderem eine auf 10 Bit genaue Display-Engine für die Farbwidergabe, überarbeitete Skalierungsmethoden, verbesserte Algorithmen zum Deinterlacing und neue Filter. Mit CyberLink und InterVideo haben bereits zwei der größten Video-Software-Anbieter angekündigt, Avivo in den einschlägig bekannten Produkten unterstützen zu wollen.
