I never worked on FIFA but I did do QA work on Madden. And what he says, a lot of it lines up to what I did and saw at my time at EA. Particularly the classification of bugs and the known shippable tags. That said, I personally don’t think a lot of the habits in EA’s sports games development carries over much with Battlefield. But if you’re still skeptical I can answer any questions you might have. FWIW, I did work on Madden 25 and 15 at the NATC in Baton Rouge, on the LSU campus.

Great comment,
Reckon the pressure around Battlefield2040 would be coming from Dice or EA? Many executives are left in the dark and can only go off what’s being reported to them. My understanding is that EA was unaware of how hard the blowback would be.
Surely heads would’ve been rolling especially when it comes apparent org targets won’t be hit?

I apologize in advance on how long this is about to be.
Unfortunately I don't know too much about DICE/Battlefield from an insider perspective. I went to work for EA hoping to work on either Battlefield or FIFA. When I got there I found out that those were basically the only games under the EA umbrella that didn't have QA teams based at the NATC (North American Test Center). FIFA was handled by a team in Canada and Romania? And DICE Stockholm handled nearly everything for BF except what they outsourced to DICE LA when they needed extra manpower. DICE had all their QA stuff done inhouse so I never even worked with others who worked on the games. But I'll give you my honest opinions based on what I know from working in EA and what I believe is happening to DICE based on that info. Some of this is based off how things were ran and setup back in like 2013-2015 so it's possible things have changed. And some of it is just my personal opinion.
DICE had a level of autonomy that most of the other EA studios were not afforded, I imagine Respawn has those same privileges now. Past success with BC2, BF3 and BF4, despite the rocky launch, offered them that freedom. During my time with EA, the company's focus was shifting from your single players, story driven narratives, etc. for a more streamlined approach to microtransactions. Most hiring rounds where for their expanding mobile games lineups and teams. People on the Madden and FIFA career mode teams, which I was apart of, were being moved off those modes to focus on the Ultimate Team modes, you had BF story campaigns shrinking and then later no longer existing. Titanfall was an upcoming new IP that was multiplayer/online only. EA's idea of gaming and the future of gaming was changing quickly with each quarterly shareholder meeting.
Now with DICE they get in a rough patch of game releases with Hardline, BF1, BF5 and now 2042. To me, it seems like EA is being pushed in one direction by shareholders and that is clashing with how typically DICE handles their games. And in turn there's been an increasing level of meddling going on. To what extent I'm not sure. But I don't think it's a coincidence they added all those extra dev teams to 2042. DICE Sweden, DICE LA/Ripple Effect, Gothenberg and Criterion, who they took off Need For Speed, all for one game? And it still releases in the state that it was in? To me, that reeks of desperation and definitely wasn't something DICE would have asked for, wanted or enjoyed dealing with.
Madden was hectic, there was always this constant external pressure on the teams to meet deadlines, bug quotas and expectations and yet from an internal perspective Madden always delivered and made EA fat stacks of cash. If Madden was that chaotic in the good times I can't imagine what absolute chaos DICE is dealing with. From a professional level they will know they have been failing with fans' expectations. Throw on EA's expectations based on their shareholders' $$? The other BF titles may not have been the best received but they at least made decent money. But this game? I don't envy a single soul working for them right now. It must be worse than walking on eggshells for people there. For years I've been memeing with my friends that I've been half expecting a complete company restructuring or EA shutting them down and giving the game to someone else. And with each day that passes it starts to feel less a meme and more a possible reality.
