Beim GPU-Computing liegen die Radeon-300-Grafikkarten nah an den Radeon-200-Modellen, da die Architektur identisch geblieben ist und auch die Treiber diesbezüglich offenbar keine Fortschritte gemacht haben. Damit ist die Geschwindigkeit abseits des 3D-Renderings immer noch sehr hoch. Die Unterschiede zur Vorgängergeneration kommen nur durch die GPU-Taktraten zustande. Manche Tests profitieren zudem von der höheren Speicherbandbreite der Radeon R9 390X und Radeon R9 390, die 20 Prozent höher ausfällt als noch bei der Radeon R9 290(X). Auffällig ist zudem, dass in manchen Tests die Radeon R7 370 sich kaum von der Radeon R7 360 absetzen kann beziehungsweise von dieser gar überholt wird. Das liegt an den verbesserten Compute-Fähigkeiten ab der zweiten GCN-Generation. Die Radeon R7 370 basiert auf der alten Pitcairn-GPU und damit der ersten Generation.

Bei der Videowiedergabe ist nur die mittlerweile per Treiber unterstützte Videobeschleunigung der Tonga-GPU bei H.264-Videos in der Ultra-HD-Auflösung neu. Die Radeon R9 380 erledigt diese Aufgabe vergleichbar schnell und effizient wie die Fiji-GPU auf der Radeon R9 Fury und Radeon R9 Fury X. Anders als diese kann Tonga jedoch nicht den H.265-Codec beschleunigen. Fiji verfügt damit über AMDs mit Abstand am weitesten entwickelten Videoprozessor auf separaten Grafikkarten. Tonga folgt mit großem Abstand auf dem zweiten Platz und alle anderen AMD-GPUs liegen klar abgeschlagen dahinter, da sie weder H.265 noch Ultra-HD unterstützen.
